Engineers Week is one of our favorite times of year. Each year, we celebrate the engineering field and the amazing engineers who solve problems, design technologies and make our world safer and better. This year’s theme, “Engineers: Inspiring Wonder,” is all about inspiring kids to discover their inner engineer and become innovative problem solvers. As the DiscoverE website describes, let's “encourage them to wonder, ‘Is engineering my future?’” To help educators inspire wonder this week, we thought we’d share our favorite videos of kids engineering, working together, learning, and of course, being inspired.

We’re always interested to learn how districts adopt and implement the EiE curriculum. One challenge many districts face is simply finding the funds for curriculum materials, another is building consensus and enthusiasm among teachers.

Amphitheater Unified School District in Tucson is a great example of a district that’s seeing a highly successful EiE implementation despite serious budget constraints.

Did you know that February is National Children’s Dental Health Month? The dentist’s office might not be your students’ favorite place, but it is full of engineering marvels! Below, we compiled some STEM-focused dental activities and technologies to share with your students. Whether you invite an expert to your class or challenge your kids to invent the next great toothbrush, putting a STEM twist on this important month is sure to put a smile on your students’ faces!

Last February, we shared a post on the blog featuring prominent black engineers in honor of Black History Month. We received a terrific response from educators like you who were excited to share these role models with their students. At EiE, we believe that one of the most powerful ways you can help kids envision themselves as engineers is to present them with role models that they can identify with. Real-world connections are a fantastic way to get kids excited about engineering. The Winter Olympics begin on February 9th, so it's the perfect time to harness kids’ excitement and show them how engineering shapes everything from an athlete’s safety gear to the design of a bobsled course.
