# Try It! Kits for the Students of Malden

At Salemwood School in Malden, Massachusetts, yesterday, Ms. Sarah Augustyniak’s first grade class was excited to learn how [*Mariana Becomes a Butterfly*](https://eiestore.com/mariana-becomes-a-butterfly-digital-storybook.html)! [Thanks to the generosity of National Grid](https://blog.eie.org/thank-you-national-grid-for-the-gift-of-try-it-kits) and support from the [Adelaide Breed Bayrd Foundation](https://bayrd.org/), thousands of students in Malden now have access to [EiE® Try It! Kits](https://eiestore.com/engineering-is-elementary-try-it-kits.html) and storybooks. These resources provide hands-on science and engineering experience to encourage STEM learning outside of the classroom.

For this event Gary Christenson, mayor of Malden, joined Dr. Christine Reich, Museum of Science’s chief learning officer; Dr. Douglas Dias, director of STEM K–12 Malden Public Schools; Ligia Noriega-Murphy, superintendent of Malden Public Schools; Van Huynh, principal of Salemwood school; and Cara Hovhanessian, K–5 STEM director MPS, to distribute the kits to students.

“We are constantly looking for ways to ensure that all students have access to quality learning materials,” Dr. Dias said. “The fact that we are able to give every student in grades 1–5 a high-quality STEM kit from the Museum of Science is a wonderful learning opportunity.”  

About 2,500 kits gifted to Malden Schools will be distributed by teachers to students with the directions and a letter to families from EIE. Malden Public School teachers will also receive accompanying EiE storybooks, funded by the Adelaide Breed Bayrd Foundation, upon return from February school vacation.
